A range of hand carved and wood-turned work by Keith Woolacott 

I was Born and grew up in the heart of the New Forest with strong ancestral ties in forest live dating back to mediaeval times as charcoal burners, Foresters and Commoners all closely reliant and involved with forest crafts and skills as a means of income and a way of life.  

 

Following in their footsteps I joined my Father and Brother harvesting timber as forestry contractors specializing in difficult terrain. This has taken me all over Britain working in some of the most beautiful and inspiring places you could wish to work.  

 

Having always been creative I sought forms in which to express my instinctive love of natures natural art .I have over the years been inspired to recreate what I have seen in many mediums .I have whittled carved and sculpted in one form or anther all my life. Working in wood, Brass and Copper decorating them with carvings and etchings of animals and forest scenes.  

 

When fate and ill heath forced my retirement from forestry I had time to explore a different medium, wood turning. This in its self was a means to an end as to create art forms primarily with a lathe I had first to become an accomplished turner.  

 

Having mastered many of wood turnings multiple fascist I now love nothing better than taking a gnarly old piece of wood , drawing on my experience of those occasions when I have been amassed at natures wonderments that I have been privileged to be part of . I draw inspiration from my love and feelings from these times and try to express this in that gnarly old piece of wood (with luck capturing the spirit of the forest and creatures that dwell there).  

 

Living now on the edge of the beautiful Blackdowm Hills I divide my time between being a carpenter and a creative wood turner at my studio/workshop.
